I am currently doing some research on the
subject of 'satan' in the Hebrew Bible and in the
non-canonical literature. I was wondering if you could
refer me to some good texts on the subject,
particlularly on the development of 'satan' as a
separate entity who is in opposition to God and man.
Tony:
A good source to start with, as so often, is the Anchor Bible Dictionary, where the article on SATAN begins:
>>SATAN. The purpose of this article is to provide a summary of the occurrences and an objective analysis of the various uses of the term Satanthroughout the Bible, as well as within deuterocanonical, pseudepigraphical, and early rabbinic literature.<<
