- Subject: Hebrew of ketef hinnom amulets
- Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 16:12:46 +0100
We were just discussing the two silver amulets from Ketef Hinnom with the
priestly blessing on them, during tea and our archeology expert said the
amulets were obviously grave goods - i.e. given to the dead for their
burial.
I always assumed two priests had been wearing the things around their necks
while alive - a sort of early tfillin. Does anyone have something to say on
that?
Also, does any of you know of something written on the Hebrew of the two
amulets apart from Gabriel Barkay in Qatedrah 52 (1989)/ Tel Aviv 19 (1992)
and A Yardeni in Vetus Testamentum 41 (1991)?? (hey - that qualified the
post as not too off-topic!)
