Apologies, my disappearing message problem seems to have been in my own
computer and nothing to do with Brent's e-mail. Today (after a reboot) all
those missing e-mails have reappeared. For those interested, here I forward
the details of the problem which I thought I had found:

I didn't have to look too far as Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q230224
covers the very point. There is an acknowledged "bug" in OE5 which affects
Reply messages.

It seems that OE uses the original message to choose the character set for
the reply. When (as was the case with us) "include message in reply" is
unselected OE uses a default character set, which may not be readable by the
recipient, giving rise to a blank or garbled message. The solution is to
either select "include message in reply", which we have now done, or
explicitly select a character set when composing a message (difficult to
remember!).

Patrick, you can see Brent's message better than I can. My copy was blank.

So, Brent, you have a problem! I was looking for the solution which someone
sent me, but the text of that message has disappeared! It is something to do
with invalid message formats in MS Outlook.

Brent,

I can barely see the screen (eye exam with dialation) so short and
sweeet.

Scholars Press dissolved as of 31 Dec. 1999. Please contact me off-list
if you are looking for a particular resources.
