Dear Friends:
The best guide to gender for *elohim* would seem to be verb forms used
with the noun. When this noun is used (quite frequently!) of the God of
Israel, the corresponding verb is in a masculine singular form. In 1 Kings
11:33, the noun is used of a female deity worshipped by Israel's neighbors.
In that same sentence (I Kings 11:33), the word "elohim" is used of male
non-Israelite deities, as well.
But there would seem to be no evidence that the noun itself is feminine.
This is how it looks to me, anyway.

I callled Hendrickson Publishing in Peabody, MA this morning. When I spo=
ke to a very charming sales representative called Betty, I was told that =
the BH is available for $49. When I mentioned the SBL offer she checked =
and found out that it is availble at that price (plus $3.shipping & handl=
ing) to anyone who calls and says s/he is an SBL member.

On another matter (about which there is an e-mail awaiting me that I have=
not read), I consulted Goshen-Gottstein's edition of the Aleppo Codex =
at Spertus College here in Chicago. It is very luxurious and easy to rea=
d although the copyist did not worry himself (assuming that this was Ahar=
on Ben Asher as Goshen-Gottstein and appparently the Rambam contend) abou=
t spaces between words. It does show Kri-Ketiv differences and is furnis=
hed with a masorah. (Spertus has it with its art books and make it quite=
clear that this was NOT for photocopying. I must stress again that almo=
st all of the Torah is missing from the Codex at this point (since 1947-4=
8) because Amazon has a very unhelpful review which implies that the Alep=
po codex has an enlarged Bet at Gen 1:1
