Sorry, Trevor, I don't know about beginner's references, but I'd think
there's quite a lot to offer (though much of what I use is in Italian as
that's what's available).
A few books include:
Moran, W.L., "The Amarna Letters," Baltimore, 1992
Kitchen, K.A., "The Third Intermediate Period in Egypt", Aris&Philips,
London 1986 (This mentions Rohl)
Redford, D.B., "Egypt, Canaan & Israel in Ancient Times", Princeton UP,
Princeton, 1992
Mazar, Amihai, "Archaeology of the Land of the Bible", Doubleday,
New York, 1992
What do people use in English speaking countries when doing later year
Mesopotamian archaeology and history courses? (This is where Liverani
should be a must.)
