I have outlined below Rohl's perspective on these matters.

Dear List,

I am hoping to refine this. I am most interested in updates on the date of
Rame
ses'
confrontation with the Hittites at Kadesh, but as always any comments are
welcom
e.

1. Jacobel (c. 1370-1350)

Not mentioned by Rohl, though he mentions the name Yakkub found in an
Execration text, also the name Ishpi = Joseph. He dates Jacob's move
to Egypt to 1662, year 21 of Amenemhat III.

2. Oppression and Exodus (Rameses II: c. 1301-1234)

Rohl dates the Exodus to 1447, reign of Dudimose (13th dynasty), but
Rameses II to the late 10th to early 9th century. Rameses' battle at
Kadesh in his 5th year was 3 years before he captured Shalem in his
8th year, which Rohl identifies with Shishak's capture of Jerusalem in
the 5th year of Rehoboam, which is 925, following to Thiele. So
Rameses' 1st year was 932 and the battle of Kadesh 928.

3. "Wanderings" or encampment at Kadesh after defeated attempt to take
Hebron (
c. 1301-
1283)

Rohl might suggest c.1446-1412. I hope you are not confusing Kadesh on
the Oronotes, site of the battle, with Kadesh in the Sinai desert,
site of the encampment.

4. Outbreak of war in Canaan (ignited by the Battle of Kadesh) and the
emergenc
e of Israel
(c. 1283-c. 1250)

Rohl separates these by many centuries! Battle of Kadesh is 928,
Joshua's conquest is c.1410.

Merneptah stele ad quem for Israel (c. 1220)

Rohl would date Merneptah in the 9th century, well within your ad
quem. Actually he considers Merneptah's stele to be a summary of the
achievements of the 19th dynasty, and links the laying waste of Israel
with Rameses II's 8th year campaign and capture of Jerusalem at that
time.

5. Israel in decline until Deborah (c. 1200-1125)

Not mentioned by Rohl.

6. Israel in recovery until the Philistine crisis (c. 1125-1020)

Not mentioned by Rohl.

7. The Saulide Monarchy (c. 1030)

Rohl's date for Saul is the same as yours. But he identifies him with
Lab'aya and put him in the Amarna period.

Thank you and it is not for sale.
