Charles is of course right. I mostly these days have the feeling that dating
of texts is the less important thing to speculate about at this moment. We
have come to the point when it is not dangerous to theology any longer to
say that something might or might not have happened, and that it is not that
important that it really happened (except fom the fact that the people
living in the modern--but hardly in the post-modern world believes in
history and not in a story). The text is still there and has a message to
tell. To find out what it will tell us is quite a job in itself and
extremely interesting and rewarding. History is often among the
paraphernalia of a text, like the historical discussion about whether or not
Sennacherib attacked Paletsine two times or only one.
