Dear Peter Kirk,

I would say that weqatal is non-volitive. As I said, in direct speech it appears in a chain; to this it corresponds a chain of wayyiqtol in historical narrative. The offline is indicated by x-yiqtol in direct speech, to which it corresponds x-qatal in historical narrative.
In direct speech weqtal indicates simple future; in narrative it indicates repetition.
More I can not say.
