Dear George,

JJ Bimson in his doctoral thesis /Redating the Exodus and Conquest/,
Sheffiled, 1981, has some excellent material on the appearance in
Palestine of bichrome pottery at the beginning of the Late Bronze Age.
If the start of the Late Bronze Age can be pinpointed, this will give us
a /terminus ad quem/ for the destruction of the Middle Bronze cities of
Canaan. Bimson concludes "There are no obstacles to dating the first
appearance of bichrome ware in Palestine to c. 1450 BCE at the earliest.
Its period of use need not have been more than 50 years, and probably
ended c. 1400 BCE".

Like all good books, Bimson's thesis is o.o.p., and I borrowed a copy
from Glasgow University Library back in 1989. Unfortunately, after a
few weeks the University required the book back for another borrower,
so I am unable to reference it again. I hope the U of Sydney can find
you a copy.

Best wishes
Ben
