Surely ):AXOWXIY "Ahohite" is from the root aleph-xeth-xeth and so is
not related to )FX "brother", whose root (as one can tell from the
construct form ):AXIY ) is aleph-xeth-yodh (traditionally
misrepresented as aleph-xeth-he). The Hebrew word for "brotherhood"
(the only one from this root, used at Zec 11:11) is )AX:AWFH (yodh
replaced by waw, no second xeth). So probably Dodai the Ahohite was
simply a descendant of ):AXOWAX Ahoah the grandson of Benjamin (1 Ch
8:4), and "Ahohite" is a gentilic like hundreds of others in the
Hebrew text.

The Ahohites are usally understood as the family of Ahoah. But given the
meaning "brotherhood" can we not see this as a "fraternity" in the sense
of some organization, not necessarily a blood-relation?
