Seir was a Horite, the tribe which inhabited Edom before Esau dispossessed
them. See Genesis 14:6; 36:20; 32:3. Also Deuteronomy 2:12; Joshua 24:4;
Ezekiel 25:8. No father is given for Seir; but his forefather was Hor
who named the mountain after himself.
