(am singular and (am plural

John Revell has sstudied lack of concord between coreferants of collective
nouns, just the thing you're all talking about in Dan 11:32. His thesis is
that the singular is the unmarked reference and the plural is the
pragmatically marked. Marked for what? Something he calls "immediacy."
"Immediacy" is defined as that "material which is important to the purposes
of the narrator or central to thje concerns of the speaker." See _The
designation of the individual: expressive usage in Biblical narrative_ ,
1996 chapter 16ff or Revell 1993.
