Just finished creating a piece with some amazing high school students from all over the world at the International Schools Theater Associations Berlin Festival (www.ista.co.uk). This is a totally cool organization, and we made 4 pieces dealing with the history of the Berlin wall, which could so easily turn cliché.. but this time, it didn't. AND NOW, I WILL DANCE IN PUBLIC! It's been a while!! But this fall season is packed: IN: 1. AUDIO BALLERINAS Rachel will perform with the Audio Ballerinas, Benoit Maubreys ingenious noisemaking children, on October 25 in Berlin. Sunday, October 25th between 10 AM and 15 H (we'll probably perform a few times during that time) Berlinische Galerie Landesmuseum für Moderne Kunst, Fotografie und Architektur Alte Jakobstraße 124-128 10969 Berlin 2. ART GROWS HERE a showing of works developed through the first ever Berlin Fieldwork session by: Summer Banks Rachel Brooker Alissa Romanow Felix Ruckert Wednesday, October 28, 20:30 schwelle 7 (www.schwelle7.de) tix: sliding scale 5-12 euro (you slide yourself) includes an introduction to the Fieldwork feedback method, which frankly rocks. If you are an artist living in Berlin, you want to know about this organization- if not, you want to see thoughtfully developed art. come see. More on the Field at http://thefieldnetwork.wordpress.com/berlin-germany. AND FINALLY IN: 3. MY PATRIOT ACT US-born choreographer Rachel Brooker’s latest installment in an ongoing conversation with her homeland, both the actual physical and political entity and the intangible country carried within... Direct, personal, and close to the bone. Here, the personal is political, the political is the material of daily life, and the rubble remaining after social change can be the graveyard of the possible, or the source of all that comes after. If you saw Oh, Beautiful: My Patriot Act in January 2009, you've seen some of the material in this piece, but most of it is new- hence the new title. SNEAK PREVIEW:: Amsterdam, OT301, weekend of October 31 (Date/time TBA) PREMIERE: November 7, schwelle 7, Berlin, 20:30 (additional show on November 8) US PREMIERE: November 21, Common Ground Theater, Durham, NC, 20:00 (additional show on November 22) bis dann!
