The AIfIA newsletter is published every other week
(pretty much) and features news about what's new with
AIfIA and with our partner sites.

So let's get to the news!

---- WHAT'S NEW WITH AIFIA -- http://www.aifia.org ----

1) AIfIA ELECTIONS
Samantha Bailey, Livia Labate, and Victor Lombardi have
been elected to serve on the Asilomar Institute's Board
of Directors. They began their two-year terms on
September 1, 2003 (along with Peter Morville and Louis

2) AIfIA ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2002-2003
The AIfIA annual report for 2002-2003 has just been
published; here are a few highlights
* AIfIA is now squarely in the black, and
well-positioned to support initiatives and maintain
infrastructure in the coming year.
* By August of 2003, AIfIA had over 400 members from 26
countries.
* Recent bylaw revisions have given AIfIA a more
traditional, more streamlined governance model.
The full annual report is available to all on the AIfIA
web site.

-- BOXES AND ARROWS -- http://www.boxesandarrows.com/

Two good recent Boxes and Arrows articles:

1) Analyzing Card Sort Results with a Spreadsheet Template
This article explains how to quickly derive
easily-read, quantitative results from a card-sort
activity by entering data into a spreadsheet template
that is adaptable to any set of cards and categories.

2) Synonym Rings and Authority Files
In part 3 of the continuing series on controlled
vocabularies and faceted classification, the authors
explain synonym rings and authority files and how their
use can bridge the gap between natural language and
complex controlled vocabularies (taxonomies and
thesauri).
