I can think of a number of reasons why I agree to this. But the main one
is that most (if not all) services need to be configured before they are
secure, of even useful. I'd prefer if nothing was turned on until after I
had a chance to taylor the config to my system.

Perhaps SMGL needs a wrapper around run scripts, like RedHat's chkconfig.
This would make it easy to manage the execution of run scripts after
casting spells.
