There does seem to be some posible security features
http://www.permaculture.info/wiki/index.php?n=PmWiki.Passwords

What could be posible is the pages can be organised into groups
we could have one group, say Specifications, which could only be
modified by us, and another group Public which could be modified by
everyone.
Yup. I think something along this line would be good. Should I do it?

Another security measure is to use the MailPosts feature
http://www.permaculture.info/wiki/index.php?n=PmWiki.MailPosts
this causes an email to be sent whenever a page has changed.

I think this would be a great feature:
1) it allows us to easily correct any vandalism. If someone mucks up a page then we will quickly see it, in an email, and be able to fix it quickly.
2) It could make the wiki more interactive. When someone updates the spec. We'll be notified about it and can respond if necessary.
This fixes the biggest problem with the wiki for a spec system, as people don't know, without looking if the docs have changed.

Posibly the easiest thing to do is to direct the mailposts to this newsgroup, or some other newsgroup set up for the purpose.

Bear, what do you think about this?
I like the idea of sending the updates to this list. It might allow us to carry on some of the conversion while keeping it archived and in order.
I'd go for it.
Any other thoughts?

Cheers,
Bear
