I am just a novice but I have used baileys candy boards before. I have never had a problem with hive beetles but my hives are in full sun. They are expensive But my hives were busting full of bees after using the boards. A top feeder is about 5 dollars cheaper but you still have to buy sugar and your time. A candy board put on top and forget. Can last the whole winter and that hive will be ready to split come early spring I had no dead hives and have those candy boards in the freezer to use them again this winter.
