Mark,

You mentioned having a second hive.  Take a frame or two of fresh eggs from the hive with a laying queen, swap an empty frame(s) from the queenless hive in it's place.  Leave the hive alone for 28-30 days.  You may check after a day or two to see if they have started a queen cell, and verify again that you are truly queenless.  But don't go back in and pull brood frames for 17-20 days.  It takes 17 days for a queen to hatch, you don't want to destroy a good supercedure queen cell that may be attached to another frame.  Let the bees do their jobs.  This will also give you a brood break, which will assist in varroa control.  If you still have a queen in the hive, you will have no problems, just more bees.

Keep on Keeping on,

Jamie

You could try M&N Apiaries. They still had plenty a couple of weeks ago. VSH Italian.

Good Morning, I was wondering if anyone knew of any queens for sale?  Baileys is out and won’t get any more.  Not sure what happened to mine.  Lots of bees but no eggs, brood, etc.  Decent supply of food.   Can combine with one thats a little weaker but would rather keep separate.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks,

Hi Everyone, today I finally got to meet Matthew Willey the artist painting the honey bees on the side of the Carborro Fire Station.  I took a jar of my first year honey as a donation.  Matthew was very appreciative of John’s idea and the honey.  Matthew will be away for the rest of the week but back next Saturday the 27th and plans another outdoor movie showing Saturday evening.  He said it would be great to have honey next Saturday when he expects lots of visitors and he can use the donations for honey to help fund murals in towns with limited resources.

If you’d like to be part of this by donating a jar of honey but don’t plan on being in Carborro next Saturday I’d be happy to meet you or pick up a honey donation this week.  I felt really proud leaving my “Mayer/Hotelling Home” honey on the table!
