Thanks Kitty,

I agree it should be clear who is speaking so we all can choose up front to attend.
Everyone PLEASE at least read this one quote from the article.....never thought of HFCS!

Its the second part that is important to consider from Scientists with the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"There is no question that neonicotinoids put a huge stress on the survival of honey bees in the environment," lead author Chensheng (Alex) Lu, an associate professor at the HSPH, told mongabay.com. "The evidence is clear that imidacloprid is likely the culprit for Colony Collapse Disorder via a very unique mechanism that has not been reported until our study,"

That mechanism? High-fructose corn syrup. Many bee-keepers have turned to high-fructose corn syrup to feed their bees, which the researchers say did not imperil bees until U.S. corn began to be sprayed with imidacloprid in 2004-2005. A year later was the first outbreak of Colony Collapse Disorder."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its clear that there are those of us here in OC who feel differently about this issue, but no matter how you feel-think about the issue its still worth tracking and keeping up with. The idea that the low doses the bees get in the field are now increased by some beekeepers who feed HFCS is an eye opener! It needs more research and testing i agree, but if there are trace elements of the compounds in the HFCS then we ALL are eating it! So in this way the honey bees are getting a double dose.

I do like how this article has better research notes, follows the time-line issue and has actual citations. The work done by HSPH frames the conversation better as more studies are coming out. What makes this study SO compelling is that there was a 94% effected colony result after several weeks. So its worth following.

NOTE: there is one math error i found. they first said 4 hives were not treated, but in the end the reporter said 5...so hopefully a correction will be made so we know the real final count!

thanks,
marty

I will not be attending any more meetings that have Bayer CropScience PR representatives unless they have announced that they are on a tour to apologize for the behavior of their company.

This article is just one of far too many that I have read recently indicting that company for biological terrorism and there is no way a couple of research bee yards will ever repair this damage.
