I grow around 15 varieties of nashi (asian pears). I really like
Chojuro. I have fruit from mid August to the end of October as the
harvest dates for the different varieites overlap. They have done well
for me each year even when apples are terrible in cold, wet years
(like this one). I don't spray and I don't have any pests (except
squirrels) with asian pears. The apples get maggots, coddling moths
and scab. You can see why I like asian pears.
