As with anything involving a dog they must work well as a search animal first.  I was just pointing out that a lot of cows and sheep got herded

with working dogs and mounted stockmen in the past so working a dog from a horse is not unique or even new.

Working a discriminating scent dog from horseback could involve a lot of frustration as both the horse and the dog hear the same signals but may interpret them differently.

If your dog works well in crowds of people it may be a candidate for working from horseback.

Unfortunately, few areas will let you let the dog loose on the trails as you see if he will obey orders given from horseback, or be distracted by wildlife

in the area. Check the rules in your practice area if it is off your own property.  Many county, state, or federal parks won’t let you work off leash except for real and

the whole point is to work off leash ahead of time to see if it will work.
