Laurie,
I agree, we did too.  Unfortunately, some people organizing parade don't know horses, which is why I asked our town to always have a horse person on their board when making decisions concerning horses and parades and safety.

I also saw this news story.  Even in small town parades, our trail riding club always had volunteers as sidewalkers along the parade route just in case a horse decided to go right brained.

I personally am amazed that the tragedy was not caused by a firework of some description...
