Leave tracking fugitives to the police. They are trained and equipped
for the job.

I have personal experience avoiding becoming the next victim of crazed
criminals on the run. They were two men on a multi-day, multi-state
rampage of armed robberies and hostage takings. I knew they were very
bad news but learned how bad only later, after they were captured.

I have also heard first-hand accounts of the destructive effect that
participating in a manhunt had on one sheriff's posse. The subjects
had escaped from a prison. That mission resulted in a bad "divorce"
between the posse and the sheriff's office.

Some MSAR units may be up for jobs like these, but most are not. Our
first objective is to stay safe, second is to help our teammates stay
safe, and third is to do our assigned task.

Anyone who is in an MSAR unit that does do manhunts, please tell us
about your training, equipment, and operations.

Stay safe,

Una Smith
