i would believe that it is legal in our state because nothing as been done
about it as of yet, but i will be checking on that first thing in the
morning. never thought about it being a non-legal matter.

Is your team registered as a non-profit? There are very specific rules
regarding the organization of non-profit groups. You might want to find
out what state your group is chartered in and get a copy of the law.
Your group may be in violation by having perpetual positions in the
ruling positions without means to overrule or replace them.

It might be worth checking out.

(original by Jorene)
"However, if an Area / Air Scenting Dog is only trained to alert on "human in
the area" without being specific with scent discrimination for the missing
person, positioning humans / riders upwind will have that dog confused with
multiple human scents and nothing to distinguish (and alert on) the missing
if also upwind."

Yes this dog had passed its first level trailing test which is scent
specific, and this dog an handler is now about to try and test for
"operational status". this dog has been trained to descriminate between
scents and has always been given the specific victim's scent before starting.

To Una Smith,

Just read your article in the Rescue Tech. journal. It is one of the best I
have read on our subject. I believe some of us managers have not put enough
effort to learn and practice Rescue. We do a good job of Search, need more
info on Rescue. Where is a good source to find more about rescue? As most
units
we have a very limited budget.
Please keep up the excellent work.

Sincerely
Al Hale, Lt. Jackson County Missouri Sheriff's Mounted Posse Search And
Rescue Team Manager
