Yes, it can be done according to Terry Nowacki. He has trained his horse
to follow a specific scent, and he showed a convincing video of his
horse locating a specific pile of clothes by scent from among many piles
of clothes placed in a field. cc

The question I have about air scenting in horses remains:
has any horse demonstrated the ability to *discriminate*
among scents? That is, to follow the scent of a subject,
from among others?
