Consider Google Docs. The feature list is pretty thin, and it's also
quite buggy, but there are a lot of positive. Firstly, you will be able
to access your document from any Internet-connected device, no need to
fuss with Dropbox or email file around. Also, Google Docs text document
can be edited by multiple people simultenaously, which is of great help
when working in team (for example, taking meeting minute can be done
cooperatively in real-time). No need to worry for backup either, as
Google Drive effectively act as an off-site backup (with infinite
history too). It does a fair job at importing and exporting to the
Excel format.

Personally, I am slowly migrating all my office productivity to Google
Doc. It just make sense.
