It does help, Thanks Todd!

I usually go pretty long with flowers too but didn't go quite that long with the sunflowers.  Next week!

Have a great weekend,
Deb

You know, It seems like we have continued to lengthen ours. Many of our sunflowers go to kids and they love the big handle of a long stalk. About 24" I guess.  6"-8" faces. We wrap stem ends with paper, dip it in water and put it in a corn-based baggie with a rubber band. They travel well.
We sell a lot of flowers and I generally try to get as much length as I can short of negatively impacting the plant.
On cuts, I always want to give the end user options as they create bouquets. They can cut them shorter.  They appreciate the option.  Many flower plants get cut to the next node.  Some Globe Amaranth colors can get big and dense.   The purple and bi-color  seem to get huge here in NE Ga.  I usually cut them down 2 nods to get length.  Same with Zinnias.
Hope that helps.,
Todd

As long as we're on the subject, how long do you cut the stems?  The ones I have are between about 14" and 18".  And are we talking about gigantic heads or mid-size?  Mine are about 6" across.

I'm 30 miles north of NYC, so I should be able to get similar prices.

Thanks again,

We went with $1.50 for about 3 years and then others pulled up the price so we followed them.
I guess location certainly would factor in. We sell in a good sized college town, Athens, Ga.

Wow, I'm selling some for the first time tomorrow too.  I was planning on a buck a piece...$2 sounds twice as good!

Thanks for the info.

We always sell out at $2 each.
If we have a ton we take a 5 gallon bucket. People seem to like the stems long. Top heavy for most vases.

Hi all,

Looking for some quick advice on something I’ve never done before: I’ve got a nice-looking row of a few varieties of sunflowers intended for cut flowers, but I’ve never taken them to a market before. Does anyone have experience to share on how to present and price them?

Thanks in advance,

Rob
