Sue,

 

In south jersey we have hundreds of acres of eggplant unstaked.  That being said, one farmer that has grown eggplant for years is now staking them and would never go back and he farms several hundred acres of market vegetables.  Hope this helps.

I have never grown eggplant or tomatillos until this year, do these need to be staked?
