Not really, but how could I resist such a subject line?

The drama is actually his opponent in the race, who *has* publicly stated
he'll withdraw, but *hasn't* actually done so. Illinois GOP are,
understandably, miffed.

"The 19-member State Central Committee cannot officially pick a
replacement for Ryan until he takes his name off the ballot.

Ryan isn't saying why he hasn't taken his name off the ballot,
and neither are his aides. Although he has repeatedly and publicly
promised to withdraw, he also has said, apparently jokingly, that
he would reconsider if thousands of people showed up at his door
and asked."

"Taking the Republican nomination in Illinois for the U.S.
Senate under the current circumstances would be akin to accepting
a cancer transplant," said Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald, the
Republican whose decision to step down after six years has left
his seat in contention.
