Gah. Excellent detective work.

$ tools
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.59
automake (GNU automake) 1.9.5
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.5.14 (1.1220.2.195 2005/02/12 12:12:33)

I hope you understand that the last thing I want to do is install a new
version of libtool on the build box just as we're on the cusp of
releasing. I learned that lesson awhile ago: Always introduce autotool
changes in HEAD, well in advance of any release. It's too destabilizing
otherwise.

I will make it a priority, though, so the next release, even the the next
point release of 0.64, uses a newer libtool. It'd be nice to see this
fixed. Fortunately, it sounds like you've got it working on your end.

If you'll post a patch of your configure, I'll include it in the download
directory with a copy of your mail (with your permission, of course) so
others of the AIX persuasion can share your joy.

Interesting day, eh?

Regards,
