Thank you Rabbi.
Of course as you know (or should), there are mixed opinions on what Paul
means by resurrection of body/spirit. Yes, the Jews expected whatever new
life may be attained would be resuscitation (rebuilding of the dead bones),
thus a bodily type of resurrection, but Paul IMO shows the influence of
Greek thought (Plato to Plotinus) and other types, and is not sure what to
believe-- it is musterion, knowledge not available in the present life. But
he does replace the old covenant promise, which was restoration in their
homeland, with their own land (their God's land), and prosperity. Paul's
new concept is not at all that, but rather an after-life--NOT in this world.
I don't see how you could believe that his idea was within the old covenant.
Even the second covenant was a change, fear of God in the heart rather than
through sacrifice (post-exilic), and now Paul formulates a third covenant
(or you could say 1a and 1b, and make Paul's the second). The unity you
propose between the Tanakh and the NT simply is not there, despite your
wishes. There is no wonder why the Jews rejected the new paradigm, since it
runs contrary to their tradition. But don't get me wrong, IMO the new
paradigm was needed. The old covenant didn't work, now time for a new one.

Not "altered physical to spiritual": Then how would you describe Jesus
floating on clouds, in a body form?" Body not of this world? What would
that be? Hellenization forever changed theology (as well as Egyptians
noticing the mummies still there in the coffins). To say the least there
appears to be some equivocation in the meaning of the word "spirit."

Richard Godwin.
