Noel,

Rather than suggesting individual commentaries, my opinion is that the New
International Greek Testament Commentary (NIGTC) series (as yet incomplete)
represents the premier advanced level commentary series on the New Testament
(and will do so for many years to come). My second choice would be for the
Word Biblical Commentary (WBC) series, though several volumes in the Anchor
Bible (AB) series are excellent also. (But, then again, there are excellent
individual commentaries, too, which are not part of any series).

At an intermediate level (with commentary on the Greek text restricted
mainly to footnotes), I believe the New International Commentary on the New
Testament (NICNT) series is unsurpassed, and some volumes rank alongside
those in the more advanced series (e.g. Moo on Romans, Fee on 1 Corinthians,
Fee on Philippians).

But to ask for only one commentary on each book ... that's an impossible
dream!

Sincerely,

Rick Weymouth
