Using the same computer that I could not get to dual boot to XP and to DOS after adding DOS. The computer is screwy and may be part of the problem.

It self-identifies as 900MHz but is said to be actually 700MHz.

Mostly works in XP, but had to reboot a few times before sound was found (and it is faint). Onboard modem says 'no dial tone'. PCMCIA modem ditto (com4, known good). No serial port, but has a multibay with CD/DVD or FD.
I was able to set up dual boot - XP or LILO (BL3, BL2 - could not get DOS except via floppy disk).

Puppy Linux - 2.6.21.7 retro kernel panics. 2.6.30.6 kernel boots. PCMCIA modem is recognized but 'no dial tone', and it is found as ttyS1. Faint sound, but usable with headphones. Intel AC'97 sound, Xvesa video, realtek NIC.

Loadlin does not work properly if used after booting to DOS from a boot floppy that loads USB drivers (which work on this laptop, though USB in BL does not). BL and Puppy boot with loadlin after booting with standard Win98 boot floppy disk. If you boot with the USB DOS boot disk, loadlin works with some combinations of kernel and loop or ramdisk or ext2 but with others 'ran out of input data' or 'FATA - kernel too old' (BL2 booted to ext2 with 2.2.26 kernel).

LILO boots fine (added the linux bootsector to boot.ini - see archives)
Did not try 2.2.26 kernel with BL2 and lilo.

pcmcia modem recognized as ttyS3 - LSR safety check engaged!
Won't dial in any OS.
(No serial port to try external modem).

USB storage works in XP and Puppy and DOS
but not in BL (including David Moberg's rather complete 2.4.31 setup).
sda: READ CAPACITY failed, Unit Not Ready, etc.

Wireless works in XP and Puppy (which recognizes it a Dell Truemobile with orinoco_cs driver). Did not try it yet in BL.

This laptop is not recommended for use with
1. Modem of any sort in any operating system, but maybe something broke in this unit. 'no dial tone' 2. USB and BL (until I get a better kernel compiled)

Takes two PC100 sodimms, and I was able to upgrade one of the 128s to 256.

Since it has a floppy drive I am giving up adding DOS to the boot choice.
