Slackware 4 has libncurses.so.1.9.9g (in elflibs package).

I am very surprise that an emacs package from Slackware 4
requires a library not in Slackware 4. Something is wrong
there. Did you get the emacs package from Slackware 4 ?

Perhaps libncurses.so.1.9.9g will work if you symlink it
to libncurses.so.3.4 ?

Cheers,
Steven
