Just for a general knowledge point, which appears to be all I can
contribute so far...

"modelines" are the lines in a XF86Config file which describe the
operating modes of a monitor. They look like:

Modeline "1280x1024" 110.00 1280 1328 1512 1712 1024 1025 1028 1054

in XF86Config files.
