Dear Raymond de Hoop,
My point is not to erase Solomon from history, but to ask after historical
warrants to write him into history. My point was also the very limited one
that your argument for the Somon in history is essentially the same as the
argument that Solomon wrote Qoheleth. Neither of you have a Solomon in
history to hang your thesis on. Gaps exist between two separate things. In
this case, however, only the literary Solomon is known to exist. The issue
is methodological and not one of belief or prejudice, and certainly not of
efforts to erase what is not yet there.
