The only way I know is read, read, read. I tried Muraoka's book but
found the Hebrew typeface (at least in the edition my library got
me) difficult to read. Some of the selections were interesting, but I
got more mileage out of studying the grammar portion and then
reading as much modern Heb text as I could get my hands on with
a couple of dictionaries nearby. One of my Hebrew students
subscribed to Qadmoniot and began sending me back issues when
she finished with them, so I have a fairly steady stream of new
material to hone my skills. This kind of saturation is the best way I
know to make the transition.
