bringing it in by means of user preferences might be an option.

OK, as long as subpages are not used, "/" is not an issue, and ":" is not
if no corresponding namespace exists, but "<" and ">" regularly cause
problems in wiki page titles. There may also be a few other characters
which require some workaround.
