Holidays, Happy! WXYC never freaking sleeps. Here’s what’s going on this festive week:

Tune in this week for a multi-day spanning Inside/Outside Track.  First, tune in on Friday at 9 PM to hear disc 1 of a new compilation: 70 Years of Sunshine, put out by Monotype.
A very cool 2 CD set of electronic/avant-garde/noise/drone music that was written basically as a musical homage to LSD, 70 years after Dr. Albert Hoffman took his first journey into the unknown chasms and valleys of the human conscious. Big names like Kawabata Makato (Acid Mothers Temple), Legendary Pink Dots, Kim Cascone, Chihei Hatakeyema, Ethernet, and more offer up 2 hours worth of hypnotic electronic goodness that more often than not was apparently the product of these folks' imbibing in Dr. Hofmann's game-changing discovery.  Disc two on Monday at 9 PM!

This Friday
, New Science Experience is taken over by Party Illegal [https://www.facebook.com/illegaldurham] and Durty Durham [https://www.facebook.com/durtydurham] DJs and producers. Big bass business from some of Durham's heaviest sound wizards! Mike S hosts.  Tune in Friday night from 10 to Midnight!

This week on
Hell Or High Water, Gina B will be playing a selection of country and soul Christmas tunes.  Tune in for some unironic holiday cheer!

Tune in this week for an hour of Broken Music hosted by special returning DJ Stuart.  I can’t tell you what he’ll play, but it should be an enjoyable hour of listening.  Find out what will happen at 2 PM on Sunday.

On this week's Sports Rap Ryan and Sarah will talk a lot about men's basketball and the NCAA. UNC's loss to Texas, Saturday's game against Davidson, court drying techniques, PJ Hairston's indefinite suspension, and other topics will be covered as the gang interrogates "culture" by using "sports" as a "case study."  Don't tune in if you don't want to hear John Mayer's "Waiting on the World To Change." Slam dunk! @dunksbutts

This week’s Thursday Night Feature focuses on jazz producer Creed Taylor.  An alum of Duke jazz ensembles, Taylor founded the Impulse! sub-label before moving to Verve, where he brought the Brazilian bossa nova sound to American audiences before eventually founding his own label,  CTI Records, in the 1970s. Taylor’s brilliance lay in keeping the jazz genre commercially viable while allowing artists to retain artistic credibility, widening the label’s reach while continuing to sign innovative artists – Nina Simone and Freddie Hubbard among them.  Tune in nine to midnight Thursday, December 26, for three hours dedicated to Creed Taylor’s oeuvre. Hosted by Sam S.

(This announcement was exactly 420 words, thanks for listening!)
