Why is it that Thanksgiving seems to denote universal suffering?  Does anyone love their family?  Either way, your WXYC family loves YOU, and we are proving it with a week of truly HOT and KILLER programming.  Seriously, check it out!

Friday was named after Freya, the Norse goddess of love, sexuality, beauty and death. This Friday also marks the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination. And so, I mean, is itreally just a coincidence that this Friday at 9 pm, The Inside Track will showcase the self-titled debut LP from Fuzz? Lots of fuzz and Sabbath vibes from garage rock golden boy Ty Segall and his two buddies. A perfect way to remember our nation's hottest dead president, war hero, and libertine satyr.

In case you missed his awesome show from earlier this semester, DJ Andy S is going to be back on the New Science Experience with promises of whimsical house bangers.  Tune in 10 to midnight.  A unicorn finding its way through cyberspace.

Tune in on Sunday at 1 PM for Hell or High Water! This week DJ Avery will be playing the debut release from The Flying Burrito Brothers entitled The Gilded Palace of Sin (1969). Dubbed the “Holy Grail of Country Rock” by many, all songs are written by former Byrds members Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman. This record is more raw and experimental than previous Parsons endeavors, using distinct aspects of both country and rock to elevate both genres. The Flying Burrito Brothers didn’t shy from the raucous energy of rock n’ roll, but they were guided by a man who understood that country was its best when tender and relatable.

This Sunday, Broken Music pays tribute to the late Bernard Parmegiani. The seminal French composer provided a number of lasting innovations in the world of electroacoustic music, developing a unique knack for melding natural and electronic material. Parmegiani was studying mime when he made his first contact with the influential Groupe de Recherches Musicales and quickly became an integral component to the collective. Parmegiani passed away early November 22 at the age of 86. Our hourlong homage begins at 2pm.

This week WXYC REPORTS is crossing the line with this month's theme, BOUNDARIES. Boundaries can be spatial, personal, political. Some are literal demarcations between A and B and some are more ambiguously defined. Featured are stories on: the memory of a survivor of Schindler's List, marriage, the NC-SC state line, post-colonial nationalism in India and Pakistan, queerness and theology, and the relationship between Universities and their surrounding communities. Tune in this Sunday @ 5pm

Dang, you know what’s really a cool thing we have going on in the area?  Local music!  Geez, you know who’s a really nice dude and nice to listen to?  DJ Lincoln, host of The Backyard BBQ!  You can find them both here at WXYC!  Tune in Sunday night at 8 PM to get a taste through time of the best tunes and sounds our lovely region has to offer.

From 9-10PM tune in to Sports Rap to hear more in the crew's ongoing investigation of the poetics and politics of sports (mostly basketball).  Expect some sports-adjacent topics and a lot of talk about slam dunks.  Listen and participate (facebook or @dunksbutts on Twitter)!

Tune in on MONDAY MONDAY MONDAY at 9 pm for The Outside Track, which will feature Èlg's La Chimie. Brussels-based French musican Èlg is one half of the duo Opéra Mort and one third of the trio Reines D’Angleterre (along with oddball vocalist Ghedalia Thazartes.) La Chimie is an album of hallucinogenic electronic squeaks and gurgles backed with industrial beats and tortured nonsensical utterances. You can dance to it if you want to as long it’s sleep-dancing and you’re having a nightmare while you’re doing it.

Tune in on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 from 9-10 pm for Cross-Cultural Sampling in Hip-Hop Between the United States and Central Europe on The Global Music Show.  Listen for an illustration of how the “First” and “Second” Worlds borrow from each other’s musical traditions to build their hip-hop cultures. Join host Brendan Daniel, First-Year RUES MA Student, for what’s sure to be a fascinating program. Thanks to Sponsoring Area Studies Center: Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies (CSEEES).  Check out the Facebook page for more info! https://www.facebook.com/events/220666834779457/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming

Have a nice holiday!
