INTERNATIONAL ORANGE on the Backyard BBQ, Sunday 8 p.m.
International Orange is strong on pop songwriting, with three of their
four members penning the music. They include Django Haskins, an émigré
from NYC, Robert Sledge, formerly of Ben Folds Five, and the musician
simply known as Snuzz, who also played with Folds in Pots and Pans, and
led the group Bus Stop. Drummer Jason Fagg currently plays in several
other local bands, including Cody Cods, and guitar in The Ugglians.
They've got great songs that float around in the head like the best
melodies should. Join us on the Backyard BBQ to hear their music while
they sit a spell and chat.
Then, go check them out at the Local Music Showcase sponsored by the
Carolina Union Activities Board on Thursday, September 9 in the Great Hall
of the Carolina Union on the UNC campus. They will be joined by other
great local acts JETT RINK and TRANSPORTATION. The event will begin at 7
p.m. and is free for UNC students and $3 for non-students.
BRADLEY KINCAID on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1 p.m.
Guitarist and folksinger BRADLEY KINCAID gained fame in 1926 when he
joined the National Barn Dance program on WLS radio in Chicago. Born in
Garrard County, Kentucky, Kincaid was one of the most popular southern
folk singers of his day. We will listen to some of his many recorded
mountain ballads and classic tunes, many of them coming straight from the
original 78 rpm records.
Also this week and every week:
-ORANGE COUNTY SPECIAL: traditional and neo-traditional music of the
world, Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
-BROKEN MUSIC: longer, more "difficult" pieces, Sunday 2-3 p.m.
-INDYMEDIA NEWS: news/talk show produced by the North Carolina Independent
Media Center, every other Sunday 5-6 p.m.
