FEMALE MUSICIANS DEFYING GENDER NORMS AND TABOOS on the Thursday Night
Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
The creative capacity is stereotypically perceived as a male attribute,
particularly in regards to the realm of music. Simply being a musician as
a woman can therefore be seen as a contradiction and perhaps worse, simply
a novelty. As the last installment of WXYC's Women's History Month
Thursday Night Features, we will focus on the women of the punk/new wave
era and those who inspired them. We are particularly interested in women
who address social issues and who have been instrumental in helping to
form spaces for women in music. Not simply 'feminists' but sexually
independent, self-sufficient trendsetters and inspirations to budding
musicians to this day. We'll see, too, if the punk revolution was as
liberating for women as one would assume.
CATHERINE REDDICK on In Step With Tepp, Sunday 5-6 p.m.
UNC's Student Body President Matt Tepper will host women's soccer team
senior defender Catherine Reddick on his weekly talk show. Apart from
being one of UNC's most valuable players, Reddick also plays for the U.S.
National Team.

world, Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
