Hi Wheatsville,
The rain has been nice lately, eh? Maybe we'll have one of those lovely rainy summers that we occasionally hear about! (I can dream, can't I?)
Scroll down to learn more about our Big group photo this Friday and Family Eldercare's Fan Fare Friday!
I am excited to announce that one of the major perks of summer is finally here! Look for Organic Bing and Rainier Cherries this week in your co-op produce department. Cherries really are a delight and a wonderful seasonal treat, so don't miss out!
Produce is really in high summer gear right now with a lot of nice seasonal fruit.
Look for:
Texas Organic Blueberries
Texas Hill Country Peaches
Organic Strawberries- 1 pounders are $3.99
Delicious red and green seedless grapes
Organic White and regular peaches from California, too!
The Co-op Advantage Flyer has a nice recipe for Classic Mixed Berry Compote that you might want to try!
You can download a pdf here... http://www.wheatsville.coop/CAP%20flyers/SW0606%20final.pdf
Remember, when buying your stone fruit (peaches, plums, etc.) that we never refrigerate them at Wheatsville in order to allow them to ripen to their full flavor. They taste a lot better because we do this, but you should plan on eating them relatively shortly after purchase. In other words, buy them and enjoy them frequently, don't try to stock up for the week!
Our frozen department has new cool treats to keep down the heat! Frut Stix are now available in Watermelon and Strawberry flavors!
We also have introduced some more Alexia heat and eat bread items including a Ciabatta roll, Three Cheese Bread and a Garlic Baguette. These bake in just a few minutes in your oven, but taste hearth-baked!
This Friday is Family Eldercare's Fan Fare Friday. This program is designed to help folks in need stay cool in the hot Texas summers. The fan drive really does a lot of good in our community keeping people healthy in the heat. We will be a drop off point for new fans or money donations between 4-7 this Friday under the patio. Please consider donating a new fan or some money to this cause, a $12 donation can buy them a new fan. The Summer Fan Drive is a seasonal program that has operated during the summer months for the past 15 years. Here is a bit more information about Family Eldercare's program... Through this program we distribute fans to low-income elders, persons with disabilities and families with young children living on a fixed income. Distribution sites are located in 11 Central Texas counties in order to make fans as accessible to those in need as possible. For more about Fan Fare Friday, go to: http://familyeldercare.org/
Come for the Fan drop-off, stay for the historic photo opportunity!
This Friday at 6pm , please join us for a HUGE group photo. All Wheatsville members and staff are invited to join us in front of the store. We will close for about 5 minutes at that time so that EVERYONE can be included. I hope that you can join us! Thanks to Andrea Johnson for organizing it and to Brett Brookshire for taking the photo!
Hope to see you on Friday, if not before!
