I've got a cygwin box in my office @ UNC (dept=ESE org=SPH) running
sshd for access from home. This would be a lot more usable if it had a
constant IP ID. Unfortunately
* it gets 3-hour DHCP leases :-(
* my dept's IT says they don't do static IP or DHCP reservation
I'm wondering
* will some other entity (e.g. ITS) provide free either static IP or
DHCP reservation? If so, who?
* If not, how to get a consistent ID for ssh/scp?
E.g. will dynamic DNS work from offcampus? Does UNC or something about
UNC's networking prevent this? Can it adapt to DHCP lease changes this
frequent?
TIA, Tom Roche <Tom_Roche AT pobox.com>
