Where I come from, wakes are both a goodbye and a celebration of a life. Wakes are held by friends for each other to express grief and love. Wakes are held to turn sorrow into joy. Bodies are not in attendance at wakes. Wakes are parties. Wakes are good. I;m not saying there should be a wake, although I do have an idea for one that would link us together from all over the world as we celebrated Ari. Pick a day and an hour. At this hour each of us who loved Ari would gather, or be alone, and reminisce, have moments of silence or prayer, or drink some wine, or fire one up or whatever you'd want to do to remember her and the joyful party she'd always help make for us. We would do this knowing we were 'in vibration' with each other, from all over the world, at the same time, making a punky Ari party. We could each send a short message to the thread during that hour. A 'virtual wake' if you'd want to call it that. Otherwise, if it's a "tribute" in some specific locale, the rest of us couldn't be there . . . not fair! If it's a musical tribute -- almost seems as though we'd be taking away from what only Ari and the Slits did and could do. They were SO original, and iconoclastic, maybe the music best be left in their voices only. Feel the same way about the Raincoats! These wonderful bands create such a unique 'atmosphere' that should maybe always be their creation for us. I dunno, maybe a new work-up of "Typical Girls" could be done by you musicians who can, since it's the name of the 'network' too, and a recording sent out to everyone during the 'Ari Hour'! But anyway, please don't be location-centric as that cuts so many of us out . . .
