i guess you have never been to a wake!? i am from an irish family and some of the best parties i have ever been to were wakes. of COURSE we would not have her body in attendance...however when someone dies that is the irish way of celebrating their life. sorry if you were offended by the idea!

yes the bass line for newtown was memorable. but i can hardly imagine other people doing justice to slits music for the most part...

i suspect she was in la with her family but don't know.

A wake?! That sounds horrible, and anyway, we're not going to get anywhere near her body soon enough. Maybe her physical remains have already been attended to. By the way, does anyone know where Ari died? Still really strange to write that. Hard to believe and still shaken as well. But it will happen to all of us one day or another. What I've taken from this is to live your life as fully and freely as possible and to follow your dreams, no matter what anyone else says. I believe that this must become part of your subconscious in addition to being a conscious plan.

Anyway, I'm "in," too, on any tribute, celebration, honoring of Ari's life and art. Might this include various bands playing Slits songs? I remember bringing Slits songs to my bass guitar teacher when I was first learning to play during my  high school years. "Newtown," specifically comes to mind. Depending on where and when this tribute happens, I'm sure I can at least put one song together for this, and perhaps "Newtown" would feel most apt.

By the way, I posted some articles, re-tweets, etc. to my Twitter account regarding Ari's passing. If you want to see them and get info about other Typical and non-Typical stuff, go here: Miss Abyss (Abysswit) on Twitter (http://twitter.com/abysswit). I'll most likely be tweeting more about Ari, and since there are times when I don't re-post my Typical Girls-related tweets to this list as well, you may want to be in the loop there as well.

If you haven't already seen these--or just want to see Ari's spunkiness in action again--enjoy some cool videos here: Record Shopping with The Slits! - Los Angeles Music - West Coast Sound & Live at TONY holiday edition: Merry Christmas from Ari Up! | The Volume | Time Out New York. Some choice quotes from these videos:

Re: Billie Holiday: "I don't like the suicidal part of it."

"My twins are big basketball fans. I don't know shit about it."

"We are all trapped animals."

Typically untypical,
Lydia
