8:45 PAUL WALLFISCH with special guest Heather Paauwe, violin
Botanica frontman/keyboardist Paul Wallfisch has taken over booking Thursdays upstairs at the Delancey, effectively creating one of the very few “must-see” nights anywhere in the New York rock scene, especially considering that for the time being it’s free. Simply put, New York hasn’t had a consistent home for intelligent, challenging rock and rock-related music since Tonic closed two and a half years ago. With this new series, playfully titled Small Beast, Wallfisch aims to change that. Typically, he starts the evening solo on piano, perhaps introducing a guest or two and then bringing up the night’s featured artist or artists. ~LUCID CULTURE

9:30 EVERY THIRD ROOM (Dan Machlin, voice; Serena Jost, 'cello) rare, white hot, appearance!
Serena Jost and Dan Machlin create songs and wordscapes using voice, cello, guitar and more.
With a heavy literary bent, they have performed at St. Marks Church, The Bowery Poetry Club and
some unlikely places. Tonight, the duo brings old favorites and new delights to Small Beast.
Dan Machlin is the author of 6X7 poems (Ugly Duckling Presse 2005), This Side Facing You (Heart Hammer), and In Rem (@ Press). His work has recently appeared in Fence, The Brooklyn Rail, Cy Press, Antennae, Crayon and The Portable Boog Reader. He has also collaborated on a full length Audio-CD with cellist/singer Serena Jost (Immanent Audio) and contributed companion text to several visual art exhibitions in New York City and Germany. He is the founder and editor of Futurepoem books and a current curator at The Segue reading series at The Bowery Poetry Club in New York City.
The term art song—normally tied to 19th-century concert music—usefully characterizes Jost’s carefully arranged pieces and succinct lyrics, neither quite rock nor folk..." — Bob Bannister, Time Out New York

10:00  CINTRA WILSON
The creator of MTVs Liquid Television; the author of three books, including the best-selling novel "Colors INsulting to Nature;" regular contributer to Salon.com and author of the N Y Times column "Critical Shopper," writer, actor, comedian and notorious all-around trouble maker Cintra Wilson brings her scathing wit to Small Beast in a rare club appearance.

10:30 LITTLE ANNIE & PAUL WALLFISCH + guests
new songs from the upcoming album "Genderful"
"Little Annie is a New York institution. Her warm and raspy alto, a voice that sometimes breaks in unexpected and emotional ways. With Wallfisch's elegant piano playing, Annie's slowish tempos, and her concentrated onstage dramatics, their interpretations have an appealing Brechtian intensity.~The New Yorker
"My motto is: Keep your edges sharp, be ready for anything, and expect nothing. When I heard Billie Holiday records as a kid, I always wanted to sing like that. Maybe I'm finally getting what I prayed for." ~Little Annie as quoted in the Boston Globe 10/08
