Hello,

Thank you to all the members of the community who helped us to
craft the Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Element of the
Tompkins County Comprehensive Plan. Since we promised at various
public meetings this fall to update interested people on the
progress of the element as it winds its way through the
Legislative process, we are letting everyone we've reached out to
and everyone who attended meetings or participated in discussions
with us this past year, know its status.

Yesterday, the Planning, Development, and Environmental Quality
Committee of the Tompkins County Legislature recommended to the
full Legislature the element's adoption as an amendment to the
County Comprehensive Plan. The next steps are for the Legislature
to 1) hold a public hearing on the adoption at its December 2
meeting, 5:30pm at 320 North Tioga Street, Ithaca, New York
(please note that the Planning Department staff will be giving a
brief presentation to the Legislature at this meeting, as well)
and 2) vote on adoption of the element at its December 16, 2008
meeting. If the vote is favorable, we then have the fun and
challenge of working with our partners in the community to
implement the action items outlined in the plan.

To view the element being considered for adoption, please visit
our website at
http://www.tompkins-co.org/planning/compplan/index.htm

Again, thank you for your advice, ideas and support as this plan
was developed for the community.
