I'm getting ready to add some users and groups to /etc/sorcery/accounts. sshd
is still in group 65534, which is supposed to be nogroup but isn't in
/etc/sorcery/groups (but I have it in /etc/group). Should I add a group sshd?

Leave the ssh account alone if you could, I've a patch that has been
waiting for zero's feedback which accidentaly includes changes to the
uid mangement and the ssh uid/gid info. I started on redoing libdepends
and forgot to commit the account changes first :/
