consider this a severe bug if he lost actual data. Instead theres a small
inconvenience around restoring a symlink. I think his anger, and your
impatience
(both here and on multiple occasions in irc) are largely out of perspective.
Now, that doesnt mean this shouldn't be fixed, but its far from the end of the
world based on your description. There are any number of workarounds to this
and
no data was lost. I contend that a severe problem involves loss of data with
no
workaround, that is *not* the case here.

Im not sure I like your patch. It treats *all* symlinks to files as files,
whether or not they're config files or not. Im not sure thats the best thing
to
be doing. We dont have a good set of semantics for symlinks. Historically
hasty
modifications about symlink handling have been troublesome. Your patch seems
to
suggest that dispel be symlink agnostic. Im unconvinced thats the best thing
to
do, but havent spent a lot of time thinking about what problems that may
cause.
